Kate was born near London and studied at Byam Shaw in London, Brighton University and then postgraduate studies in Education and Fine Art at Brighton and University College Falmouth.
From 1985 to 1997 she taught Art and environmental Education in schools. A series of intense dreams combined with ill health prompted her to resign her teaching career and in 1997 she moved to Cornwall with her son to develop her own work.
Kate's interest in the subtle world led her to working and studying with a shaman for several years until the death of her mother in 2006 provoked a crisis which prompted a change of direction.
The significance of the feminine in all spiritual traditions resonates deeply with her both personally and in her work. Currently, Kate's research is focussed on this subject, a rich and powerful seam very relevant at this time.
Kate's work has been exhibited widely: drawings have twice been short-listed for the Jerwood Drawing Prize and small works have been selected for the Discerning Eye. Other national juried shows include the Royal Academy Summer Show, the Ludlow Open, Artsway Open (twice) and numerous critics' choice shows at the Newlyn Art Gallery. For further details please see C.V.
Essays on her work have been written by Laura Gascoigne (The Spectator, Galleries magazine, The Tablet), the poet Rupert Loydell and Professor Penny Florence. Dr Richard Davey of Nottingham University is currently writing a piece for the Millennium show (opening 14th October 2011). Kate still teaches occasionally; last September she gave a presentation and short lesson on expanding one's consciousness through the act of drawing at the Drawing Research Network conference in Brighton.
